About activities done by trade unions in the sphere of development of tourism

At this stage of development of the world economy, tourism plays an important role in the growth of the state economy, development of export and investment opportunities and improvement of living standards.

Uzbekistan, as a state with a rich history and cultural heritage, has great potential for the development of this sector. Such historical cities as Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, Tashkent, Karshi, Termez, Kokand and over 4,000 objects of cultural heritage as well as diverse natural landscapes provide rare opportunity to develop tourism in the region.

A number of activities have been done by the Council of Federation of Trade Unions in Uzbekistan in this area. In 2013-2015, the trade union committees of the Republic of Uzbekistan have initiated the "Concept" of tourism development within the system of the federation.

Goals and objectives of the Concept

The main goal of the Concept is to develop tourism among trade union committees, particularly focusing on domestic and medical tourism, expanding the network of tourist services and improving their quality to international standards.

Main objectives of the concept:

to systematically address the development of domestic and medical tourism among trade union committees;

to introduce new trends in this sphere; to expand traditional and modern forms of entertainment services;

to organize for employees and their families tours to places of historical worship in our country;

to organize for employees and their families tours to historical sightseeings;

to increase types of treatments in sanatoriums that belong to the system of trade unions; to introduce new medical and health technologies based on the use of natural and artificial therapeutic physical factors, to develop medical tourism by applying them into practice;

to establish the system of modern tourism infrastructure; to improve the quality of information and communication technologies, transportation and other services;

to maintain advanced training for personnel working in the sphere of tourism and related businesses;

to expand the activities effectively by learning international experience. 

Subsidiary company, “Kasaba Sayr”, before the Council of Federation of Trade Unions in Uzbekistan has been established along with a hotel  in Samarkand city (“Nodir Samarkand”), a hotel in Tashkent city ("Sayokhat-sari") in order to develop tourism and expand the role of this sphere. Besides, the building of a new hotel in Khiva city has been planned.

“Kasaba Sayr” has been licensed by the Commission of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan on licensing tourist activities. Hence, the company has achieved a right to provide tourism services inside and outside the territory of Uzbekistan.

Since May 25, 2013, "Kasaba-Sayre" has organized trips (to Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva and Shahrisabz) for more than 4,500 visitors from more than 100 organizations functioning in various spheres (such as, education, health, public administration, construction, communication, etc.).

I. Domestic tourism

Recently,Kasaba sayr” has organized trips to Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Samarkand, Shakhrisabz for the staff of following organizations:

In harmony with the state program “The Year of Healthy Child”, several activities have been carried to maintain healthy thinking of younger generation. Particularly, 40 children from each region, 320 children in total from poor families and orphanage from Jizzakh, Karakalpakstan, Tashkent Syrdarya, Kashkadarya, Tashkent and Navai were taken to trips to Samarkand, Khiva, Tashkent under scheme of “We are the children of independence”. 

Furthermore, regular tours have been organized in partnership with the trade union of “Shurtan Gaz Kimyo” complex. By now, 160 workers of the complex visited ancient but always young - Tashkent.

120 workers of cotton and wheat collection, who achieved great results, visited Samarkand on December 24, 2013.

II. International tourism

On October 8-10, 2013 we participated in “Touristic fair 2013 held in Tashkent.  In this fair, we singed more than 10 international agreements with foreign travel companies. In particular, partnership agreements with such companies as Endatour (Turkey), Kalao voyages (Malaysia), Xaynan group (China), Turkish Airlines, Baykanur Grand Service (Russia) have been concluded and bilateral cooperation has started.

50 workers of Kazakhstan trade unions have visited Uzbekistan (Tashkent and Samarkand) via kazakh tour agency “Akmaltourist. The aim of the visit was to familiarize Kazakh workers with Uzbek historical heritage and develop tourism between two countries.

The trip to Kuala-Lumpur, Malaysia, was organized (Chinese and Indian temples, Twin buildings, Sultan Kabul temple). In addition, the bilateral relations with such hotels as Corus, Mandarin  ORIENTAL, MAYA have been established and a number of tours have been organized.

Singapore sightseeing and hotels are familiarized and trips has started (Independence square, Marina BE complex, Botanical garden, Sintoza island).

III. Medical tourism

On September 20, 2013, the Board of Sanatorium-Resort Management of the Council of the Federation, in partnership with Ministry of Health and Uzbekturizm has held the round table in “Zaamin” Sanatorium on "Actual issues of rehabilitation systems and development of the quality of services of medical tourism". The partner companies from China, Korea, Russia, India and Azerbaijan took part in this discussion. Besides, several companies participated in the exhibitions with their diagnostic and physical therapeutic devices and equipments.

The conditions created in the sanatorium were published on handouts in three languages (Uzbek, Russian and English).

Within the frames of medical tourism development, many tours for medical treatment were organized and during January, 2013- September, 2014, 2984 foreign citizens were cured.

In order to develop medical tourism, 10 experts were sent to a business trip to the "Karlovy Vary" (Czech Republic) to share experiences and skills.

Taking into account magnificent effect of natural mineral water, found in Jizzakh region, in health recovery, a new sanatorium - "Havotog", with the capacity of 50 people, is under construction.

In order to raise the awareness about the resorts administered by the Board of Sanatorium-Resort Management of the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan, a number of commercials have been produced and circulated in the media (TV , radio, Internet)to provide more information about the therapeutic processes in a sanatorium and conditions and the scenery around the resort. Activities of sanatoriums are advertised in airports, railway stations, public places (in the super and hypermarkets as "Korzinka.uz.", "Mega Planet", "Continent") via Antaraks (Liquid Crystal Display) since February of this year.

In order to attract more foreigners in Uzbekistan, to implement the usage of modern medical equipment that meets international standards, as well as to develop non-traditional methods of treatments, new technologies of SPA (Fish-spa), “Aroma-fito-vanna”, "Garra rufa" have been imported and introduced in such sanatoriums as "Turon" and "Chinobod".

Two thermo-therapeutic massager-machines (“NUGA Best-5000”) in both “Turon" and "Chinobod" sanatoriums and  one in each of other sanatoriums ("Botany", "Buston", "Chortoq", "Sitorai Mokhi Khosa", "Kosonsoy", and "Qashqadaryo sohili") have been purchased and are widely used to pull the spine, improve the metabolism using precious stones - tourmaline, preventing inflammation of internal diseases, removing salts from kidneys, treating varicosities and other hypertensive diseases.

Besides, “Chimyon”, “Oqtosh”, “Abu Ali Ibn Sino”, “Umid Gulshani” sanatoriums have bought and use multifunctional “ZINDA” apparatus which treats spine.

We organize trips for tourists after their arrival at the resorts. They will have the chance to visit attractive sightseeings of the city, such as the historical monuments, theaters and museums.

All holidays are celebrated in the company of friendly staff of the sanatoriums throughout the year. Several meetings with poets, writers, scientists, public figures and other well-known personas along with concert programs, theatres and other shows are organized almost in every part of your stay.
