The Modern Appearance of the Ancient Fortress
As a result of the special significance attached under the leadership of President Islam Karimov to the repair and restoration of historical, cultural and architectural facilities, to boosting the inflow of foreign and internal tourists, the sphere of tourism has been dynamically developing in our country.
Wide-ranging beautification and overhaul efforts have been in progress at the fortress of Suleymankala, whose history amounts to three thousand years, in the Hazarasp district of Khorezm region. Among the facilities being erected are the Eastern bazaar, a house of craftspeople, a chaykhana, a hotel, the Hazarasp Fortress Museum and an amphitheater to seat 600 people. The canal flowing beside the bastion and the lake located at the premises are projected to undergo reconstruction to allow for boating and rafting.
The resolution of the head of our state on the 2013-2015 Program to Bolster Tourism in Khorezm Region signed 20 March of this year and the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Measures to Boost Support for and Bolster Tourism in the Republic of Uzbekistan” inked 10 October 2012 have been serving as an important guide for action in augmenting the tourist potential of the Khorezm oasis.
Works are underway to restore the walls of this citadel and repair the mosque. The museum planned to be built near the fort will exhibit objects discovered in historical places located in Hazarasp district – Chingiztepa, Uch Uchok, Tuprakkala – in addition to those narrating the national traditions and customs of our people as well as the life and creativity of great scholars. An exposition is due to be organized in tribute to the history of our nation, along with the tremendous creative works in progress during independence years under the leadership of the head of our state.
